Everything is completely backwards. Upside down.
Replace Frist with Reid and Afghanistan with Iraq, and imagine the press this would get:
"U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Monday that the Iraq war can never be won militarily and called for efforts to bring the insurgents and their supporters into the Iraq government."
And yet--it was the Taliban that harbored and supported Bin Laden and Al Qaeda...so we're going to pull out of Afghanistan and let the Taliban into the government there so we can fight harder in Iraq?!
My head asplode.

Frist is an idiot who wants to be the next John McCain -- except without the honor of military service. This is such BS. Here is what Frist is willing to say (paraphrased) "we can't win militarily. We need to get people who right now consider themselves part of the Taliban to come to our side and join the political process. Anyone who won't and keeps fighting will have to be dealt with militarily." So, basically the obvious. If our enemies join us we'll stop killing them, otherwise we'll keep killing them. Brilliant. The reason the Taliban is experiencing a resurgence right now is because we neglected the Afghanistan war in favor of Iraq. To continue to do so would be a serious disaster for us and for the people of Afghanistan. The Republicans know that, I hope the Democrats do too. I hope that the average American knows that as well. Bill Frist is trying to play both sides of the fence and he is going to end up with nothing in the end because he says stupid things that enrage his party base. Neither party believes that it makes sense to "stay the course" in Iraq and ditch Afghanistan. That's just dumb. If Frist runs for President there is no way he'll get the party nomination, just like John McCain never will. Playing both sides of the fence doesn't work in American politics, for better or worse.
McCain-Lieberman would be the ultimate both sides of the fence ticket, wouldn't it? It's so awful it's a thing of beauty.
